Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has all but confirmed Hakim Ziyech’s move to Chelsea.

The Morocco winger is set to join the Blues in a £38million deal this summer.

It is understood a verbal agreement has been agreed between the two clubs, with Chelsea beating Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Ziyech.

But Ten Hag is surprised his star man did not leave Amsterdam earlier.

He told Fox Sports: “Ziyech to Chelsea? A transfer was coming, we expected it to happen.

“And I actually already expected this one or two years earlier. And each time it was, ‘wow, he stayed again’.

“We are just happy that we will still have him until the end of the season.”

Ziyech signed a new Ajax deal last August, which removed a £25million release clause.

Since joining the club from Twente in 2016, the 26-year-old has scored 48 goals and registered 82 assists in 159 games.

He has eight goals and 21 assists to his name this season as Ajax lead AZ Alkmaar at the top of the Eredivisie table by three points.

Ziyech usually features on the right wing, but is able to play as a no.10.

If a transfer to Chelsea goes through, he will officially become Frank Lampard’s first signing as Blues boss.

talkSPORT host Tony Cascarino insists Chelsea would be ‘very, very lucky’ to land Ziyech and compared him to Man City star Riyad Mahrez.

He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “Ziyech has got everything.

“He’s a bit like Riyad Mahrez – he can dribble and go past you, he’s quite direct, he’s a great set piece taker, he has a fantastic assist record, he just sees passes.

“He’s just got everything in the game. I think he’s one hell of a talent and Chelsea would be very, very lucky to get him.

“He destroyed Real Madrid last year. He really played a big part in Ajax getting the better of Real at the Bernabeu.

“He’s a real talent who I think would be a fantastic addition to Chelsea.”
