Mohamed Salah is like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Sam Allardyce has told talkSPORT.
The former England and Everton manager also says Salah is Liverpool’s greatest Premier League goalscorer and he continued his red-hot form in front of goal with two fine finishes to lead the Reds to a 2-0 victory over Watford on Saturday.
It was his fourth goal in three games and the forward has now scored an incredible 84 goals in 126 appearances for the Merseysiders since his £34million signing from Roma in 2017.
His overall goal tally ranks him alongside a host of Liverpool’s legendary players, but he is at the very top of the table when it comes to goals-to-game ratio.
Liverpool have been blessed with a number of gifted goalscorers over the years, including Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen and all-time top scorer, Ian Rush.
But Salah boasts the best goals-to-game ratio of any Liverpool player in the Premier League era with 0.72, thanks to his 63 league goals in 88 games.
On average he has scored a goal every 121.8 minutes, which is third behind only Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane of the current Premier League stars.
Salah also has just 38 games to score 16 goals to become the fastest player in Liverpool’s history to reach 100 goals – beating Folwler’s record of 165 he set when he was just 21!
Sam Allardyce was in the talkSPORT studios on Monday for the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, and was asked if Salah is Liverpool’s best-ever Premier League goalscorer.
“Well, the record says ‘yes’,” he said.
“It’s harder to keep that record up the more games you play, so if he stays at Liverpool and continues to score those goals, then yes.”
And Big Sam says Salah’s record is made all the more impressive by the fact he isn’t even a centre-forward.
“He’s that wide-man goalscorer though, isn’t he. He’s not a down-the-middle goalscorer.
“He’s like Ronaldo.
“Ronaldo and Messi both score goals but not as a centre-forward, and Mo Salah is the same.
“So it makes it even more remarkable with the goals Salah has scored from his position.”
