He can be frustrating in front of goal but Mohamed Salah is still just behind the great Lionel Messi in an incredible Champions League goal stat.
We saw the good and bad side of Salah as he helped Liverpool qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League with a 2-0 win at Red Bull Salzburg.
Naby Keita opened the scoring with a header before the Egyptian sealed the victory with an incredible finish from a tight angle.
Below you can see Salah’s moment of magic which confirmed the Reds’ place in the knockout stage.
You could argue this game was a typical Salah performance as he missed a number of fairly routine chances but also producing a piece of magic when getting on the scoresheet.
So this is why this stat that puts the Reds’ forward only narrowly behind Messi is made all the more impressive.
Since he moved to Anfield in 2017, Salah has been involved in 27 Champions League goals (19 goals and 8 assists).
Only Messi has achieved more with 28.
The Argentine is not playing in Barcelona’s final group match against Inter Milan as the Spanish giants are already through.
But we fully expect both Salah and Messi to add to their involvement in goals stats later on this season.
