Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted it is ‘easy’ to compare Marcus Rashford with Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The England international has 13 goals in his last 14 games for club and country and has already equalled his season-best tally of 13 for United.

He was on target once again in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad following on from a midweek man-of-the-match display against Tottenham, where he netted twice.

Solskjaer was in his final campaign as a player with United in 2006/07 and watched as Ronaldo turned into a world-class operator, scoring 23 times at the age of 21.

The following year, Ronaldo scored 42 goals across all competitions to claim his first of five Ballon d’Or and Solskjaer believes Rashford has the potential to become one of the world’s best.

“It’s very easy to compare the two of them, yes,” the manager said.

“Both with skills, body shape, attitude, attributes – everything. The boy has every chance in the world to become a top, top player. Let’s hope he continues like this.

“I don’t want to talk about the amount of goals. As long as he keeps being positive and being direct and thinking about getting in front of the goal and getting chances, he’ll score goals.”

It is not the first time this season Solskjaer has drawn parallels between Ronaldo and Rashford, after the latter scored a superb free-kick winner in the Carabao Cup at Chelsea.

“It’s very Cristiano-like, isn’t it?” Solskjaer said.

“The boy has got nerves of steel. Takes a penalty, no problem. Steps up and hits the ball like he does and wins us the game, fantastic.”
