Jose Mourinho’s return to Old Trafford was never going to be low key was it?
The Portuguese is at Manchester United for the first time since he was sacked as manager in December 2018.
He is now in charge of Tottenham, who Man United are facing in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The game got off to a frenetic start with the home side taking the lead after just six minutes through Marcus Rashford’s strike.
Jesse Lingard dispossessed Davinson Sanchez in a dangerous area, the ball falling to Rashford who beat Paulo Gazzaniga at the near post.
And moments later, Mourinho inadvertently found himself in the thick of the action when a flying challenge from Harry Winks led to Mourinho taking a knock.
Winks clattered into Man United winger Daniel James, who could not help but crash straight into Mourinho.
Mourinho was briefly nursing his right leg but James was in a worse state, needing attention from the club’s physio for some moments before being allowed to continue.
Spurs hit back shortly before half-time through man of the moment Dele Alli’s well-taken strike, however.
