Wycombe goalkeeper Ryan Allsop allegedly suffered homophobic abuse during his side’s 2-0 win over Tranmere on Sunday.

Goals from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Joe Jacobson sent Wycombe to the top of League One with Ipswich not playing due to international call-ups.

But the game was marred by alleged homophobic abuse towards Allsop, who reported it to referee John Busby at half-time.

When asked about the alleged incident, Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “If that’s the case, then for me there are some stupid idiots about.

“Whether it’s racist or homophobic, whatever it is, we have to stamp this out.

“I have got to credit Ryan Allsop for being brave enough to stand up and say I’m reporting this, and that’s what we are and I’ll stand by him.”

Wycombe have been the surprise package of the League One season this season, amassing 36 points in 17 games.

Ainsworth added: “I’m so proud of the boys. Inside the dressing room we keep private what we believe we can achieve and what our ambitions are.

“To improve on last year was always the aim. We’re really proud of where we are and deservedly so.”
