Suso “stayed at Milan because I wanted to” but has pleaded with fans to “have faith in me”, arguing “I don’t need to prove anything.”
Milan supporters have given Suso a lot of stick this term, but he responded with a cheeky free kick against Lecce, which secured Stefano Pioli his first win in charge of the Rossoneri.
“I really like being at Milan,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I could have left in each of the last two years, but I didn’t.
“I stayed here because I wanted to. I didn’t cost anything and, considering this, I feel I have given a lot back to Milan. To the supporters I would like to say: have faith in me.”
“The fans can jeer, because neither I nor the squad are doing well. But I’m convinced that I don’t need to prove anything. The people know what I can do.
“If they criticise me, it’s because they know I can do more and that I’m capable of it.
“If a player is not criticised, it’s because they don’t expect anything from him.”

Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto has also been overlooked, although Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez and Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz are included.
